Egyptian population reached 76.5m in 2007 and every 23 seconds, a new Egyptian baby is born. More statistics: percentage of illiterate fell from 39% to 29% in past 10 years; 500,000 marriages occur annually vs 60,000 divorces; average family size is 4.18 in 2006 vs 4.65 in 1996; more than 95% have access to clean water and electricity but only half had access to proper sewage system.
