Mideast Barbie dolls don Islamic veil - Yahoo! News

Yahoo! has an AFP article on Arab's answer to baby doll Barbie. Her name is Fulla, dark-eyed and olive-skinned and wears an Islamic veil. The doll is a best seller in Arabic countries.

Middle East to surpass Asia-Pacific in mobile penetration rate in 2006

A research study reported by Al-Bawaba.com argues rhar the Middle East will suprass Asian and Pacific in terms of mobile phone penetration rate by end of 2006. In 2005, the Middle East mobile market added 20.6 million new subscribers for cellular services, boosting subscription rates by %48 to a total of 62.9 million mobile users. Another 150 million people live close to a mobile network and are likely to be future subscribers resulting in doubling total mobile users in Middle East by end of 2010.

Gulf Stock Market last 5-year growth: 850%

Khaleej Times Online summarizes a recent research report by HSBC on why Gulf-based investors switched from Western stock markets to the Middle East. The study revealed that the Gulf stock market has grown by 850% in the last 5 years from a market capitalization of $112 billion at the end of 2000 to $1,061 billion by October 2005.
