"It's a cliché to say that America is Comeback Nation, so instead, let's acknowledge the familiar ritual that Tiger Woods has now embarked upon. When celebrities screw up, there's a well-worn path they must travel before they're welcomed back by the famously forgiving American public. There has to be contrition and cleansing, and it has to look like something significant has changed. Usually some time has to elapse while the Fallen One hovers in purgatory, to signify sacrifice (although Letterman seems to have skipped this step). It's kind of like going through a carwash: You go in dirty, get hosed down and battered around, emerge dripping wet, then air-dry for a little while until you're good as new."read complete article : Why Tiger Woods Will Come Roaring Back - Yahoo! YouTube: The lyrics in English and Arabic (thanks to Peter B.):
Oh, Love of Beirut (Ya Hawa Beirut يا هوا بيروت)
They closed the roads (put roadblocks), they dimmed the signs
They planted the canons and deserted the grounds (or areas)
Where are you my love? Still my love?
We became the screaming love, we became the distances
We miss those happy days
The days when we stayed up late in the streets
Crowded roads and long drives
and we met in the old restaurant
Oh love of Beirut, Oh love of the days
Come back Beirut, and those days will be back
The next summer came, the moon is still broken
Do you think you will forget me, my sad love?
I came back home, I couldn't find my house
It was in smoke, with no flowers and no fence
They are disappearing
Lost under the night's sky
Where do you think the friends will be?
Where will the tears and the tenderness be?

I dreamed a dream in time gone by
When hope was high,
And life worth living
I dreamed that love would never die
I dreamed that God would be forgiving.
Then I was young and unafraid
When dreams were made and used,
And wasted
There was no ransom to be paid
No song unsung,
No wine untasted.
But the tigers come at night
With their voices soft as thunder
As they tear your hopes apart
As they turn your dreams to shame.
And still I dream he'll come to me
And we will live our lives together
But there are dreams that cannot be
And there are storms
We cannot weather...
I had a dream my life would be
So different from this hell I'm living
So different now from what it seems
Now life has killed
The dream I dreamed.

Scientists are uncovering a “pill” through wine against aging or at least a mechanism that slows the aging of a person for some ten years or more. CBS 60 minutes has the documentary displayed below. Oh by the way, imaging what would happen to the US Social Security system if that happens. The old (God-bless) will live longer but will the young still be able to pay the price of the current social security system by financially contributing to the system for more retired people but who would manage to live longer? Or, would the elderly be forced to work more in exchange for a “pill”?
“(CBS) Seventeen years ago, 60 Minutes first examined the so-called French paradox, which suggested that the French - despite a high fat diet and high consumption of wine - had a remarkably low incidence of heart disease, compared with Americans. Most researchers agreed that there was something in the wine that offered protection, and a few years later, even the highly cautious federal dietary guidelines say that moderate consumption of red wine can be beneficial.
Now, scientists across the country have identified a substance in red wine called resveratrol that they believe might do more than just protect the heart, but could - in very high concentrations - significantly extend life by preventing a number of age related illnesses. If they're right, we all may soon be taking a pill that could give us an extra decade or two of healthy old age.”
from CBS News:
“(CBS) Getting a peace deal in the Middle East is such a priority to President Obama that his first foreign calls on his first day in office were to Arab and Israeli leaders. And on day two, the president made former Senator George Mitchell his special envoy for Middle East peace. Mr. Obama wants to shore up the ceasefire in Gaza, but a lasting peace really depends on the West Bank where Palestinians had hoped to create their state. The problem is, even before Israel invaded Gaza, a growing number of Israelis and Palestinians had concluded that peace between them was no longer possible, that history had passed it by. For peace to have a chance, Israel would have to withdraw from the West Bank, which would then become the Palestinian state.
It’s known as the "two-state" solution. But, while negotiations have been going on for 15 years, hundreds of thousands of Jewish settlers have moved in to occupy the West Bank. Palestinians say they can't have a state with Israeli settlers all over it, which the settlers say is precisely the idea.”

NEW YORK, NY, September 23, 2008 - Mind Evolve Software, a leading publisher of brain-training software, today announced the launch of Mind Sparke Brain Fitness Pro. This new consumer software is the most sophisticated brain-training application on the market and employs the only training method scientifically proven* to make users smarter.
Working-memory and fluid intelligence compete for brain power; by training and strengthening a user's working-memory Brain Fitness Pro increases the processing power available to solve problems. The software progressively taxes the brain, pushing the user to remember and process visual and auditory information under time pressure. This novel approach increases intelligence, reverses the adverse effects of aging, boosts test scores, and improves job performance.
"We're on the cusp of a new era in brain fitness," said Martin Walker, Founder and CEO of Mind Evolve Software. "It's always been assumed that we were stuck with the brain-power we're born with; but with Brain Fitness Pro people can improve their raw ability to think. It's a big step forward."

According to the London daily Elaph, the songs “Bahibak Ya Libnan” (I Love You Lebanon), “Baghdad”, “Ya Beirut” (Oh Beirut), “Bahlif Besamaha” (I Swear On Its Skies), “Raje’ Yetamar Lebnan” (Lebanon Will Be Rebuilt) are among and the many songs that show the love of one’s country and being attached to the land and the people of one’s country.
These are some of the many songs that are stuck in people’s hearts throughout the Arab world for some time and then are forgotten.
Since the war on Gaza started many songs were released and it is hard to see the point of these songs, because for sure the people in Gaza won’t be hearing them and if they did they will not change the reality of their everyday life. Some artists believe that instead of spending time on useless songs, the money should be donated to the people of Gaza in order to get food and medical supplies which they are in desperate need of.

“This song is a loose translation, by Jeanette Turner, of the anti-war poem Kız ÇocuÄŸu (The Little Girl) by Turkey’s most important modern poet, Nazim Hikmet (1901-63), who was persecuted and imprisoned for his outspoken Marxist views.
The story is told by the ghost of a seven-year-old girl, who died when the atomic bomb was dropped on Hiroshima ten years earlier.
It was recorded by Pete Seeger in 1962, using the tune of “The Great Silkie”, and this is the version used in later recordings.
Probably the best-known performance is by The Byrds on their album “Fifth Dimension” (1966). It has also been recorded by This Mortal Coil on their album Blood (1991) and recently by Bruce Springsteen. “

It always make me smile when i see western journalists on TV talking about their experience in Iraq or the middle east. They look very serious and they talk with great confidence which makes me wonder. where do they get it from? The author wonders why many western journalists, who do not know the Middle Eastern culture as well as the language (Arabic), think that "they know it all?"; and when they think they do, they "make fun of it and act in a superior way , making it clear for 'locals' that these journalists come from a better place." In my opinion, this is very true, but with only a single exception and that is Robert Fisk from The Independent.

Beside the original papers there were copies of a large number of letters to Darwin, collections of press-cuttings, etc.
